Have you ever met a “perfect” family? We believe the characteristics of a perfect family could include but are not limited to fun, loving, dependable, responsible, wise, talented, successful, supportive, self-sufficient, and diverse. We also believe the genealogy of a family results from birth, marriage, or adoption– which means unlike a sports team, you can’t always choose members of your family. Regardless, we all feel pressure to be perfect in the eyes of our family– making right choices and decisions and never disappointing or embarrassing them with our actions.
But we all make mistakes, which we affectionately defined as Lessons Learned, and they sometimes have an adverse impact on our family. The unknown consequences of and reactions to our decisions and actions causes us the most stress. There are thousands of “to do” guidance, instructional, and educational resources available including books, magazines, websites, TV networks and experts to tell you what to do, how to do it, when to do it, what to buy, and where to find it. Our goal is simple–to help you achieve your goals, reduce stress, and save time and money by learning what “not to do” when faced with or thinking about a family situation, task, decision, or idea.
In these tough times, with record high job losses, home foreclosures, business closings, natural disasters, and an economic meltdown, even the smallest mistakes we make can be exacerbated and have a lasting and devastating effect. This is a critical time for us to focus on lessening and avoiding mistakes. Learning what not to do from others can have a positive impact on how we respond to situations and the outcome. We are inspired to create this platform for individuals to share their real-life Lessons Learned because we believe one of the best ways to overcome a mistake is by helping others avoid them.
To our Readers– we all make promises to never make the same mistake twice. But as time progresses we can’t remember all of the things we’d never do again– until it’s too late. Learning what not to do in good times and bad can help you avoid stress and ruins mistakes can create.
To our Contributors– what a great feeling to know we’ve made a difference and positive impact in someone else’s life. We are changing the way we approach learning and acquire knowledge by focusing on what not to do and making a concerted effort to avoid gaffes. If you previously shared a Lesson Learned–Thank You.
